Recovery effort in Fort McMurray will have a focus on mental health

FORT MCMURRAY (NEWS 1130) – The focus on Fort McMurray in the coming months will be on recovery.

The Alberta and federal governments want to make sure the mental health issues facing evacuees are taken care of.

The plan is to have mental health workers in place before people return home.

Minister of Public Safety Ralph Goodale says there are plenty of people who will need these resources.

“For example, first responders, who have been under incredible stress and the evacuees who have been suddenly rooted from their homes.”

Alberta Municipal Affairs Minister Danielle Larivee was in Slave Lake when parts of that town were engulfed in flames.

She says the community will help people recover.

“Coming together made all of us stronger and provided that opportunity to grow together and I know that the same will be true for Fort McMurray.”
