Avoiding Alex Fraser traffic might get tougher

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – If you’re someone who cuts across Annacis Island to avoid traffic at the Alex Fraser Bridge, it may become even tougher for you to do that in the future.
There’s some talk about putting up gates to block queue-jumpers from getting in.
Delta Police Chief Neil Dubord says he’s been speaking with business owners on Annacis Island.
The idea of a ‘smart gate’ at the Annacis Island exit has caught his attention.
“Between the hours of, say, 3:30 and 5:30, you’d need a sort of smart tag on your windshield that would allow you onto Annacis Island. Then I think we’d see the problem go away for a lot of the traffic on the island.”
Dubord says there would be some logistical challenges, but he sees value in that idea.
