Missing hiker found safe near Buntzen Lake

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A frantic search on a hiking trail near Buntzen Lake for a man who went out on Wednesday is now over. Crews located the 21-year-old man this morning near Eagle Ridge.

Al Hurley with Coquitlam Search and Rescue says Alec Winter was last in contact with his aunt on Friday. “I believe he called her from above Buntzen and stated he was on a ridge, it was quite steep and he was getting low on water. That was the last contact.”

He notes Winter was an experienced hiker. “If you did it in one day it would probably take you 12 or 13 hours but he planned to go for several days so we think he got off trail somewhere along the Ridge.

Winter was found in a drainage area and had to be pulled out via a long line rescue.
