No more delays expected, Evergreen Line construction on track and on time

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – It won’t be long before people living in Port Moody can take the SkyTrain to work. Testing and construction on the Evergreen Line project is still on track for an opening day sometime in what crews say could be as early as February.

The exact date the line will open to the public is still unclear, but Project Manager Amanda Farrell says work has been going smoothly since the boring machine completed work on the tunnel section on North Road.

Farrell says the main hold up had been getting the tunnel finished and now that it’s done, they’re rushing toward the finish line. “Pretty much [by] September or October is when we’ll start testing along the entire line, but we’re still finishing the track work in the tunnel.”

She adds the project should still come in on budget as well at $1.43 billion. Farrell says the stations have been built with longer platforms in case upgrades in the future include longer trains.

The rapid transit extension will link Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam to the existing SkyTrain system, and was originally scheduled to be in service by the summer of 2016, but it has been delayed twice.
