Horse-nappers snatch 12-day-old filly in Langley

By

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – Mounties are looking for an infant horse, who was stolen during her first night out to pasture.

Liesel, the 12-day-old warmblood Oldenburg filly, was last seen at around 9:30 p.m. at a farm on Telegraph Trail. Police believe the animal disappeared sometime overnight.

“As I understand it, the mother, the mare, would not readily allow for her filly to be taken away,” says Langley RCMP Corporal Holly Largy. “There’s some indication that the mare actually was sedated to allow for the theft, that would lead us to believe that perhaps the person has some knowledge of horses.”

She adds there’s no physical evidence that a horse trailer was used in the theft.

Liesel would have a value of between $10,000 and $20,000.

“If anybody has any information of somebody all of a sudden coming into possession of a 12-day-old filly, I think that would likely stand out.”

If you have information about this case, you’re asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
