Unsung Hero: NSR leader is honoured

By

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – NEWS 1130’s Unsung Hero is Mike Danks, team leader of North Shore Rescue. He was nominated by Bridget Ann who wrote the following:

Mike is our Team Leader for the North Shore Rescue Team. He joined the Team in 1996 and has been one of “The Most” active volunteers on the Team.

He had come up through the ranks to become a highly trained Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteer and assumed the role of Team Leader after the untimely death of Tim Jones in January 2014.

Mike has since been unanimously voted in to this position each year by all the NSR members. Mike’s leadership skills are recognized by all in the BC SAR Community. He encourages members to participate in all the activities of the Team, and is ever grateful to the members for all the time that they also volunteer to help the Team to be able to respond to the ever increasing numbers of search and rescues.

Mike is not just a SAR volunteer and leader… he is a proud father of three lovely daughters who very recently assisted Mike in their very first search!

I am honoured to be a fellow NSR Team member with Mike Danks since 1996, and am proud to recommend him as An “Unsung Hero.”

Mike will receive $500, and the person who nominated him gets a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice.
