Action packed Day 13 at the Games

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (NEWS 1130) – Canada didn’t win any medals on Day 12 of the Games, but there is lots to look forward to today. Here are some notable events to keep an eye on.

Men’s 200m final
Andre De Grasse will be looking for his second medal of Rio 2016 as he is one of eight competitors set to face off in the 200m final at 6:30 p.m. PT. De Grasse put on quite a performance in Wednesday’s semi-final, finishing just 0.02 seconds behind Usain Bolt and setting a new Canadian record. The emerging star sprinter earned a bronze in the 100m final.

Decathlon
One of Canada’s best remaining medal contenders, Damian Warner, fared well in Day 1 of the Decathlon on Wednesday. He racked up 4,489 points through five events, which puts him in third place heading into the final day of the competition. The events remaining include the 100m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and the 1500m race.

4x100m
The Canadians will have teams in both the qualifying rounds of men’s and women’s competition of the 4×100 today.

Women’s 800m
Melissa Bishop will run in Heat 2 of the 800m semi-finals. She posted the best time during the qualification round and will be looking to build on her stellar performance.

Golf
Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp will look to put themselves in better position in Round 2 of the women’s individual stroke play. Henderson enters today’s action tied in 19th place after shooting a one-under 70 while Sharp finished with an opening round 72.

Diving
Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benfeito are both in contention still in the women’s 10m platform. The two will participate in the semi-final, seeking an appearance in the final, which takes place later in the day.

Wrestling
The Canadians have three different competitors taking part in various wrestling events on Day 13. The day begins with Jillian Gallays in the 53kg qualification round, Danielle Lappage in the 63kg qualification round before Erica Wiebe gets going in the 75kg freestyle 1/8 finals. Stay tuned during the day as all three events run throughout Day 13 in single elimination.
