VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A memorial for Constable Sarah Beckett is taking place in Stanley Park today, in conjunction with a ceremony in Ottawa for officers who died in the line of duty. Beckett is also receiving another honour today, she will be added to the BC Honour Roll.
Public Safety Minister Mike Morris says the death of any officer has an impact on police forces across the country. “I spent a lot of time in the RCMP. A lot of my colleagues were killed in the line of duty during the 32 years I spent in the force. I went to Sarah’s funeral, we are a family.”
Beckett was killed in a car crash in April and she leaves behind two children.
The memorial is happening at 1 p.m. at the Brockton Oval.
