TransLink downplays concern over reduced SkyTrain frequency coming for Expo line

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – If you’re a Surrey SkyTrain user concerned next month’s route changes will mean less service, TransLink’s chief executive says the Expo line adjustments will mean a slightly longer wait on the platform but you won’t notice.

As a result of the changes, you’ll be waiting an extra minute than you do now to get a train at certain parts of the day.

But TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond has no fears that will turn riders off the system.

“The service is so frequent as it is. I mean, we have one for the most frequent rapid transit systems you’re going to find in North America,” explains Desmond.

“It’s the best match in capacity to demand. So the net impact is that there’s more capacity on both lines. The tradeoff is on the Millenium line a little bit more frequent, or actually a lot more frequent. On the Expo line, just a little bit less frequent.”

While Expo trains will arrive less frequently, the good news is they’ll be longer, and overall capacity on the route is going up as a result of these changes.

Route changes take effect on October 22nd.
