Heavy traffic expected for mega-mall grand opening

DELTA (NEWS 1130) — The shopping frenzy in South Delta has already begun with reports of people camping outside the soon-to-be opened megamall the night before its grand opening.

Traffic is expected to be heavy as Tsawwassen Mills entices shoppers with prizes during its grand opening Wednesday.

Charlene Brooks, the public affairs coordinator with Delta Police, says they are expecting a significant number of visitors for the next few days and have a response plan in place.

“We have additional resources, we’ve worked in partnership also with RCMP Freeway Patrol and other first responders to ensure that we have capacity to deal with any situations, whether it be a traffic collision, minor or major in nature.”

Brooks says there will be multiple areas that will have an officer in uniform and multiple resources utilized to ensure good traffic flow and easy access to the South Delta area for local traffic.”

“We’ve got a lot of curious and eager shoppers but with the additional resources and the collaborative approach we’ve taken with the management of Tsawwassen Mills, we’re hoping that it will be fairly straight forward.”

Brooks is advising travelers to be prepared for a longer than usual trip, especially for anyone wanting to access the Tsawwassen ferry terminal.
