Final testing underway before opening of Evergreen Line

PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) – Don’t be alarmed if you see a lot of first responders in the Tri-Cities today.

Emergency drills are being run on the nearly completed Evergreen Extension.

Transit Police, Coquitlam Fire Rescue, and Port Moody Police are just some of the emergency personnel taking part.

Chris Bryan with TransLink says anyone in the area might see some rather strange things over the next three Saturdays.

“There will be some evacuation and rescue exercises with emergency vehicles or big equipment. They might see uniformed personnel, perhaps even some. They might see some smoke. There will also be some road closures around the stations as well,” says Bryan.

He says this is one of the final steps ahead of the December 2nd opening.

“I think there’s a fair bit of excitement in the Tri-Cities, I think people can almost taste it,” says Bryan. “This is one of the last steps, we’re still doing a fair bit of work behind the scenes, but it’s pretty exciting building up to opening day.”

Regular SkyTrain service will not be affected during these training dates.
