Nearly 30 dogs seized from a Squamish breeder

By

SQUAMISH (NEWS 1130) – Yesterday a warrant was executed in Squamish and the dogs were taken. The seized animals include 18 adult dogs and 11 puppies.

They include Old English sheepdogs, Coton de Tulear, bearded collies and a Tibetan terrier.

Marcie Moriarty with the BC SPCA says the dogs were badly matted and suffering from ear infections, overgrown nails, skin infections and severe dental disease.

“Their conditions ranged and of course, we are still working with veterinarians to figure out all of the issues.”

Moriarty says they’ve made several large seizures over the last couple of years and it’s getting quite frustrating.

“Where we’re taking in large numbers of animals from breeding situations, and to be honest, it’s exceptionally disappointing and it very much highlights the need for regulation in this area.”

The investigation is ongoing and charges could be recommended.

“It’s early but they could potentially face charges under the prevention of cruelty to animals act of the criminal code.”

The dogs are not up for adoption yet because this is a current legal case. The SPCA does expect the animals to recover.
