Canucks strike Lightning in Tampa

TAMPA BAY. FL (NEWS 1130) – Canucks Coach Willie Dejardins has repeatedly said the team needs its depth guys to chip in offensively. They finally did that in Vancouver’s 5-1 win in Tampa.

Jayson Megna and Jack Skille scored twice while Erik Gudbranson got his first goal of the season to lead the Canucks to their fourth win in the last six games.

Vancouver got off to a fast start when Skille opened the scoring less than four minutes in. Gudbranson doubled-up the lead when his shot caromed off the back boards, hit Lightning goalie Ben Bishop and went into the net.

Megna gave the Canucks a three goal lead six minutes into the second but Tampa got some life back when Jonathan Drouin beat Ryan Miller to bring the Lightning within two. Megna restored the three goal lead with one second left in the period when he took a feed from Daniel Sedin and roofed a backhander past Bishop.

Skille wrapped up the scoring with a wrist shot late in the third period.

The Canucks did get a scare late when goaltender Miller had to leave the game. He made 38 saves before giving way for backup Jacob Markstrom.

Vancouver continue its road trip on Saturday against former goalie Roberto Luongo and the Florida Panthers.
