COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – Coquitlam RCMP are asking for help finding a Burnaby man accused of hitting a police officer with a car.

This all started on December 30th. When a Port Moody police officer was working in Port Coquitlam when 36-year-old Marek James Anisimowicz was pulled over.

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin says he then tried to drive away hitting the officer.

“Miraculously it looks like the officer is going to be okay. When you are involved in this kind of intense struggle with someone and a motor vehicle is involved that’s very lucky indeed. It looks like he got away with minor injuries and he is already back on duty.”

Anisimowicz is wanted for Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm and Flight From Police.

The suspect is described as 5 foot 11, 220 pounds with brown hair and a distinctive neck tattoo with cursive writing on the right side of his neck.

McLaughlin says investigators believe he has left the province so the Canada-wide warrant was issued.

Police ask if you see Anisimowicz do not approach him but call 911 immediately. If you have information that could help find him, call the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and ask for Cpl Scott Grimmer.

If you want to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or visit solvecrime.ca.
