Over 70 bags containing KKK literature found in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – BC’s Hate Crimes Team is working with investigators in Abbotsford after dozens of plastic bags containing KKK pamphlets were scattered around a neighbourhood Sunday morning.

Police say they were first told about the bags at 7:45 a.m. by a homeowner on Marshall Road who found one in his driveway.

Officers later found over 70 bags left on lawns and driveways between Orchard Drive and Eagle Mountain Drive, and Constable Ian MacDonald says more could be hidden in snowbanks and shrubs.

“This KKK pamphlet made a lot of disparaging remarks about Martin Luther King Jr., which is believed to coincide with the recognition of his birthday and the observance of the federal holiday in the United States,” he explains.

This is the second time in three months racist literature has been spread around Abbotsford in this way, and MacDonald says the same people are likely behind both incidents.

“It looks like the MO is the same — cowardly throwing these things out the window of a moving vehicle, having these Ziploc bags partially filled with rice so they give some weight to the garbage they’re throwing, and clearly they identify themselves as being part of this KKK distribution line.”

Home surveillance footage shows what police believe is the suspect’s dark-coloured pickup truck, possibly a Dodge Ram.
MacDonald says further footage is being analyzed by their Forensic Identification Unit. Several of the bags are also undergoing fingerprint analysis.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the APD at 604.859.5225 or text 222973 (abbypd). You can also call Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
