VPD appeal for unique witness in November homicide

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Homicide investigators in Vancouver are making a plea for a witness to a murder late last year to come forward, but they’re releasing few details about who this woman is.

On Halloween night, a 25-year-old man died of his injuries after multiple people were stabbed at the Plaza of Nations. Vancouver Police say there was a fight involving two groups and in all three people were rushed to the hospital with critical stab wounds, one of them died.

Police now say witnesses saw a woman who identified herself as a BCIT practicum nursing student who provided first-aid to the man who later died and they want to find her. “Investigators are interested in speaking to this woman as a witness. So far, their attempts to identify her and locate her have been unsuccessful. We’re asking the media and we’re asking the public to help us locate this woman and we’re asking her to come forward,” explains Constable Jason Doucette.

However, police have not put out a photo or description of who the woman. “She did the right thing. She was trying her best to provide first-aid to this person who later died. We’d like to speak to her and get her side of the story and what she observed. What was he like when she got there? Those sorts of things,” adds Doucette. “We actually don’t even know that she’s reluctant to come forward, she may not even know we’re looking for her.”

Doucette says they don’t have any indication the first-aid the woman provided led to the victim dying.

He adds investigators are again asking that anybody who was in the area of the Plaza of Nations between 9 p.m. on October 31st and 2 a.m. on November 1st that may have captured video footage or photos to call the Major Crime Unit at 604.717.2500.
