Investigators looking into overnight Surrey shooting

SURREY (NEWS1130) – There has been a homicide in Surrey.

In a release, police say they were called around 8:00 p.m. last night to an area in Newton where they found an unresponsive man in a vehicle. It has been determined by investigators that he died from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Maple Ridge resident, Hershan ‘Shawn’ Bains.

It is unknown if this killing is linked to other recent shootings, or the murder of another man on January 23 of this year.

The crime scene has since been cleared but officers are still canvassing the area looking for possible witnesses.

Cpl. Meghan Foster of IHIT says, “This homicide is believed to be a targeted act, and there are people who have information about what occurred. It’s imperative that they step forward and contact police so that those responsible are held accountable.”
