VPD looking for man in connection to November assault

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Police Department is hoping a tip from the public will help them solve an assault case from November.

Around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16th, officers were called to a parking lot near Brockton Oval in Stanley Park. Detectives say a passerby dialed 9-1-1 after finding an 82-year-old man in a car suffering from serious injuries.

The victim is still in the hospital.

Investigators are now releasing surveillance footage of a man who was in the area at the time of the assault, in hopes someone will be able to identify him.

“It’s not clear what role, if any, he played in the assault,” says VPD spokesperson Constable Jason Doucette, clarifying that this man is not a suspect at this time.

The man can be seen walking from totem poles toward the seawall. The video shows him walking with a limp, wearing a light-coloured sports coat, dark pants, and white shoes.

If you saw the car the victim was sitting in (a 2011 grey Toyota Corolla) in the early hours of the November 16th last year, or recognize the man in the video, police would like to hear from you.

You can contact the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
