North Shore Rescue warns it doesn’t ask for money over the phone

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – North Shore Rescue is warning people that they don’t make calls, nor do they hire any firms to make calls, asking for donations.

But the organization has been made aware of recent aggressive phone calls from someone purporting to be collecting money on their behalf.

The team says from time to time over the years, they’ve been made aware of the phone solicitors.

However, Team Leader Mike Danks says they’ve decided to stress the fact the callers don’t represent them nor the BC Search and Rescue Association, because of the nature of the calls. “You can’t be aggressive. People can donate when they want to. We want to get the message out that these people don’t represent us, and that’s not our style at all.”

Danks says if you are receiving a cold call asking for a donation, make sure you ask which organization they are representing. Write down the name of the caller and the number from which they are calling, then let North Shore Rescue know. “We appreciate any donations that we get. We are strictly all volunteers. We rely on public donations to operate. It sounds like somebody is using our name, but the funds are not coming to us. That’s a real problem. Plus they’re being rude at the same time.”

The best way to make a donation is to go to the team’s website and donate there.
