Convicted killer Kelly Ellard to ask for escorted absences again

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – Nearly 20 years after Kelly Ellard killed teenager Reena Virk near Victoria, Ellard will appear before a parole board to ask for escorted absences to attend medical appointments and parenting programs with her baby.

She made the same request last month but the two-member parole board was deadlocked on the decision and also found Ellard’s “very entitled” attitude did not favour her release.

Ellard has spent about 15 years behind bars after being convicted of second-degree murder for the 1997 beating and drowning death of Virk, who was 14-years-old at the time.

Reports surfaced last fall that Ellard was eight-months pregnant following a conjugal visit from her boyfriend. Her first child was born late last year in the Abbotsford prison where she is currently serving her sentence.
