VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The fifth and sixth homicides of the year have been recorded after a double shooting in East Vancouver.
Police say at about 9:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of East 31st Avenue and Inverness Street. When they got there, they found a car on East 31st Avenue near Ross Street and inside were two men who had been shot. One of the men died at the scene, while the other was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
A 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 32-year-old died in the hospital.
No one has been arrested. Both the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section and Gang Crime Unit have been brought in to handle the case.

Last year in Vancouver, there were 12 homicides, while so far this year there have been six.
People in the area describe the area as very quiet and they may be a little one edge. Just last month, police and fire crews had to deal with a string of three different fires in the same area over the Family Day holiday weekend that included one at McBride Elementary School just a block away.
Rene lives in the neighbourhood and describes what he saw and heard last night. “I heard two shots, then I saw a white car going [west], going fast. A few minutes [later] I saw the ambulance and police come.”
