PM looking to make good on peacekeeping mission promise

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he is not ruling out sending troops on a peacekeeping mission this year, even though Canada has not yet shared its plans with the United Nations.

Speaking at the Liberal Caucus in Ottawa, the PM says his government is still looking carefully at ways to make good on last summer’s pledge to send up to 600 troops and 150 police officers for UN peacekeeping operations.

Due to Canada’s complicated history as blue helmets in Africa, Trudeau says he is not going to fast-track any decision without studying the impact it will have — both overseas and on Canadians back home.
