Boeser makes home debut when Canucks battle Ducks tonight

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks have just seven games left on their schedule. Every game is against a Pacific Division opponent and it begins tonight against the red hot Ducks. Anaheim is in first in the division and holds an 8-1-1 record over its last ten games. Vancouver is a miserable 2-6-2 over the same stretch so it appears to be a major mismatch on paper. Bo Horvat doesn’t see it that way and says the Canucks aren’t ready to roll over and call it a day.

“We want to keep getting better. We don’t want to call it in and shut it down for the rest of the season. We want to keep getting better. We want to keep working on things to build in to next year and these games are just as important.”

There will be a buzz in Rogers Arena this evening with home debut of Brock Boeser. The 2015 first round pick turned heads in his first two NHL games. The forward did not look out of place and even scored in his debut. Boeser says he isn’t trying to be overly flashy, he just wants to make a good impression and learn as much as he can over the last few weeks of the season.

“I am just trying to learn any way I can. I am asking the guys anything I can to learn and help myself get better. I am just really excited to be here.”

Boeser will have the opportunity to succeed, as Coach Willie Desjardins has put the youngster on the top powerplay unit with the Sedin’s. Boeser says he plans on making the most of it.

“It is a little different from university. The Sedin’s are obviously much better players. They are probably Hall of Famers, so it is awesome to be out there with them. They move the puck really crisp and they are always in the right spot. I am really excited to get a chance on the powerplay.”

Ryan Miller gets the start in net, while the Ducks are expected to counter with Jonathan Bernier between the pipes.

Tonight is the fifth and final game of the season between the two teams. The Canucks have won two of the four games. Anaheim can leave Vancouver with a playoff spot locked up this evening by earning a single point or if the Kings lose to the Oilers.

The puck drops at 7 p.m. and you can watch the game on Sportsnet.
