Rain and wind expected for BC’s South Coast

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A special weather statement has been issued for the South Coast of our province.

In Metro Vancouver, we can expect a strong low pressure system which will pass to the west of Vancouver Island during the day Friday bringing strong winds to much of the South Coast.

Our Meteorologist Russ Lacate has the straight goods. “[Expect] and intense weather system more reminiscent of November than April to close in overnight bringing periods of rain throughout Friday. However the track of this system has the potential to trigger damaging winds across the entire BC South Coast.”

“Weather warnings will likely be extended across the Lower Mainland and neighbouring districts for easterlies 40 km/h Friday morning rising to 50 to 70 km/h through midday. Possible southeast gusts of 80 km/h will continue through late Friday afternoon.”

Winds are forecast to rise over West Vancouver Island, Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands late Friday morning then spread to the remainder of the inner South Coast through the afternoon.

For all the latest updates, listen to Russ’s weather reports just after traffic every ten minutes on the ones. You can also follow him on Twitter @NEWS1130Weather for the very latest.
