Clark talks tough on lumber ahead of BC election

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – With just two days left in the election campaign, Liberal leader Christy Clark is spending her Sunday on the Lower Mainland, talking tough on the US softwood lumber dispute.

Clark wants to wants a ban on thermal coal exports through BC, in retaliation for duties on softwood lumber. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has notified Clark that he is considering the idea.

In Surrey today, Clark kept up the rhetoric.

“Canadians are nice, patient, polite people. But honestly, when the Americans are going to try and throw one in three forest workers out of work in Canada, it’s time to stand up.”

Clark has two stops in Surrey today as well one in Maple Ridge.

NDP boss John Horgan is also in Metro Vancouver, with stops on Granville Island, as well as the ridings of Vancouver-Fraserview, Coquitlam-Maillardville, and Delta-North.

Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver had a stop in New Westminster this morning, appearing with famed environmentalist David Suzuki alongside Green candidate Jonina Campbell. He’s off to Creston and Nelson this afternoon.
