Missing woman found at Golden Ears, medical rescue concludes at Cypress Mountain

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – A woman and her dog have been found more than 24 hours after they were last seen near Golden Ears Provincial Park.

The Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue team were searching for the woman, in her mid-20s, this morning.

She left home around 11 a.m. Sunday and was reportedly seen about two hours later at North Beach. She and her dog were due back from their hike before dark.

She and her dog have been found and are now home safe.

Rick Laing with Ridge Meadows SAR says at least 12 crew members were searching for the woman.

Medical rescue concludes at Cypress Mountain

Air and ground searches have concluded on Cypress Mountain in a medical rescue at St. Mark’s Summit.

North Shore Rescue says a group of hikers have been walked out of the area safely.

Constable Jeff Palmer with West Vancouver Police says the police got a call around noon from some hikers in difficulty along the Howe Sound Crest Trail.

“The information is that one of the party of two hikers had slipped and possibly injured an ankle, or a minor injury but it was sufficient enough they didn’t think they could hike back out.”

Palmer says while it’s sunny in the city areas, there’s still a lot of snow, making it slippery and easy to fall.

“There’s quite a bit of risk of people breaking through the snow and that can result in ankle twists, knee sprains, that can really affect your ability to hike back out.”
