Okanagan Lake approaches record water levels

KELOWNA (NEWS 1130) – Water levels continue to rise at Okanagan Lake, meaning a number of homes are at risk of water damage.
The newest forecast has water levels rising 10 to 15 centimetres — which would mean a new record.
“That’s a lot more water in terms of elevation,” says Brian Reardon is the director of the Central Okanagan Regional District Emergency Centre. “So we are recommending that property owners along the lake shore bolster their existing protective measures.”
Castanet’s Wayne Moore describes what it looks like from the surrounding area.
“There’s a lot of garbage in the lake,” says Moore. “A lot of trees, branches and a lot of docks have broken away.”
The lake sits at around 343 metres above sea level, according to Reardon.
