Elections BC preparing for snap election, just in case

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Elections BC is preparing for the possibility of a snap election this year, inquiring about voting place availability, restocking supplies and preparing to recruit election officials.

The minority government situation following the May provincial election has Elections BC in “a constant state of readiness”, according to communications manager Andrew Watson.

“We are conducting preparatory activities in case we are called upon to administer a snap election this year or before the next scheduled date in 2021,” he says.

Watson tries to maintain a constant state of election readiness and will conduct any election that is called.

“Whether that’s a fixed date general election, a by-election or a snap election, so we have conducted some preparatory activities inquiring about space availability for district offices and voting places, re-stocking supplies needed to run an election, like ballot boxes and training materials.”

Watson says the activities don’t presume another election will be called this year, but recognize that it’s a possibility.
