BELLINGHAM, Wash. (NEWS 1130) – Construction on Interstate 5 in Bellingham over the weekend will cause headaches for drivers heading to sunshine in Seattle.
Crews will have the right lane of I-5 south in Bellingham closed until 9 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Justin Fujioka with the Washington State Department of Transportation said.
“If possible, we’re advising that drivers consider alternate routes like State Route 9 (east of Bellingham) or State Route 11 (or Chuckanut Drive),” Fujioka said.
WSDOT expects there will be significant delays thanks to the closure.
To permanently fix the section of road, crews will be pouring new concrete into two sections of highway. It needs to harden before vehicles can use the road.
