Delta police smash windows to save dogs left in hot vehicles

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Police in Delta say they had to break the windows of two vehicles in the Tsawwassen Mills Mall parking lot Sunday afternoon after getting reports of dogs being left inside.

Both calls came in between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., when the temperature outside was 24 degrees. The temperature inside the vehicles was 43 degrees, according to Public Affairs Coordinator Sharlene Brooks.

“It was clear these animals were in distress,” she says, adding its possible the dogs could have died had officers not intervened.

“This serves as yet another reminder: do not leave your pets in the vehicles,” Brooks adds. “The temperature can rise quickly, and it is exceedingly higher than what it is inside.”

The owners of the pets are facing fines under Delta’s Animal Control Regulations.
