Man charged after $65,000 worth of equipment stolen from fire victims

WILLIAMS LAKE (NEWS 1130) – A man has been arrested and charged after being found with $65,000 worth of heavy equipment from victims of the wildfires burning near Williams Lake.

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC was engaged after information that a “prolific property offender” was active within the evacuation zone.

Police searched a remote property in the Beaver Creek area, outside of Williams Lake, and found the stashed equipment.

The equipment belongs to people who had to evacuate the area because of fires.

Officers arrested 38-year-old Shane Brady, from Big Lake, and he has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property with a value higher than $5000.

Brady has been remanded in custody and his next court date is scheduled for July 20th.
