Father and daughter saved by rescuers in Lions Bay

LIONS BAY (NEWS 1130) – A pair of lost hikers can thank crews from Lions Bay and the North Shore for getting them out safely this morning.

The father and daughter got turned around north of The Lions Bay and called for help last night.

“They did a quick reconnaissance of the site, determined that it would be a 150-foot line beneath the helicopter, those three were brought in, ” says Mike Danks with North Shore Rescue. They did three separate evolutions, bringing six Lions Bay members and two subjects out of the field.”

Members of Lions Bay Search and Rescue rappelled down to them and kept the two warm overnight until crews with North Shore Rescue could get to them with a helicopter.

“Just based on the complexity of the terrain there, they decided to hunker down with them all night and to wait for an extraction.”

Danks can’t say enough about the professionalism of the crews.

“This was a Lions Bay call. They did all the work on this. We basically came in and assisted with the extraction of everybody from that area.”

No one was hurt.
