Abbotsford shooting victim involved with gangs

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – The 18-year-old who was shot dead in Abbotsford on Friday has been identified as Jaspreet Sidhu, a man who was known to police and involved with gangs.

Police found Sidhu on Friday afternoon, after he was shot and crashed his car into the side of a building on Oriole Crescent near George Ferguson Way.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the shooting appears to be targeted, and investigators are trying to determine motive and the identity of a suspect seen fleeing the scene. The man was seen running away on a pathway on Oriole Crescent after the shooting. He’s described as 5’11” tall, of medium build and wearing black pants and a black, hooded sweatshirt.

Investigators say the evidence recovered does not link Sidhu’s murder to a shooting that occurred Sunday morning in Abbotsford.

“This was a brazen shooting that occurred in a residential neighbourhood, and it was a blatant disregard for the safety of the public.” Cpl. Meghan Foster says.

“It has been said many times before, but if you are involved in criminal activity then you are not immune to the dangers that come with it.  This is another example of a young life that has been lost too soon, and a family has been left devastated.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448), or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.  Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
