Assault rifle, ammunition, drugs seized in South Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Surrey Mounties have seized an assault rifle, ammunition, drugs and cash at a home in South Surrey after a tip-off from neighbours.

Surrey RCMP’s Drug Section executed a search warrant at a house on 156th St near 17th Ave on Friday, after reports from nearby residents that the home was a “problem property”.

Officers seized an unsecured assault rifle, varying amounts of ammunition, drugs including cocaine and methamphetamine, cash, and drug packaging materials.

A 39-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both from Surrey, have been released from custody pending further investigation.

“This investigation was aided in part by the concerns and information provided by residents in the area who identified this residence as a problem property,” says Surrey RCMP Staff Sergeant Dale Carr.

While the search warrant wasn’t directly related to recent ongoing ‘shots fired’ investigations, Carr says it does involve the street-level drug trade, which these investigations are believed to be associated to.

The investigation is ongoing as officers work on a report for Crown Counsel.
