‘Deadpool 2’ stunt driver was reportedly working on her first film

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The stuntwoman who died on the set of Deadpool 2 in Downtown Vancouver yesterday morning was apparently working on her very first movie.

The BC Coroners Service has identified Joi “SJ” Harris as the woman killed in the crash. Her Ducati slammed into the Shaw Tower, sending glass and debris flying.

Andy Watson with the Coroners Service says Harris, a resident of New York City, died at the scene.

Harris reportedly had done the scene several times, but lost control of the motorcycle on the fifth take.

Several agencies, including WorkSafeBC, are trying to figure out exactly what happened. She reportedly wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time because the character she was playing doesn’t wear one.

Before getting into show business, Harris had been a motorcycle road racer. She had billed herself as the first licensed African-American to ever compete.

A small memorial of flowers and candles has been set up at the scene in front of the boarded-up window. Shooting of the film starring Ryan Reynolds has been put on hold.

Watson says separate investigations of the crash are underway by the coroners’ service and WorkSafeBC, the workers’ compensation authority in the province.

He says the coroner’s report will be released publicly when it is complete.
