Honeymoon not over between Greens and NDP despite differences

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As the NDP gets ready to scrap bridge tolls, the Greens are once against defending their partnership with British Columbia’s ruling party.
Despite disagreeing multiple times with his NDP colleagues, Green Leader Andrew Weaver says the two parties aren’t breaking off their agreement to work together.
Whether it’s grizzly bear hunting, Uber, bridge tolls or rental subsidies, the NDP and Greens have shown a lot of disagreement in the early stages of the new government.
“Nobody wants an election any time soon. We’ve committed to making this government work. We have a ‘no surprises’ and good faith approach.”
He says because the partnership is not a coalition, the Greens will continue to play an opposition role while collaborating with the NDP on certain files
Weaver says the Green Party will continue to voice opposition to what they consider bad public policy.
“We’re in opposition, we did not form a coalition. We will not form a coalition. So, we have many files that we’re working on that there’s good collaboration, and some where we disagree. So we’re going to agree to disagree. We’re quite vocal about that, it doesn’t mean we can’t work together.”
