LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – The wind warnings have been lifted for Metro Vancouver, the Sea to Sky region as well as parts of the Fraser Valley including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Hope.
Tens of thousands BC Hydro customers experienced power outages today, mostly due to downed wires from the storm.
Environment Canada said an intense cold front crossed the South Coast this morning. Strong southeast winds were expected to shift abruptly to gusty westerlies, but wind speeds are no longer expected to reach warning criteria.
Meanwhile, several other parts of Metro Vancouver and the Sea to Sky region up to Squamish remain under a special weather statement, thanks to another storm expected to come through starting this evening. The storm could see wind gusts up to 80 to 90 km/h and heavy rain.
Before that next storm comes in, conditions are expected to remain windy, despite sunshine in today’s Metro Vancouver forecast.
