At least five units damaged at Surrey storage facility following big fire

By

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Thick black smoke and large orange flames can be seen from a major roadway in Surrey as crews battle a large fire.

The blaze is at a storage facility in the area of King George and 84th Avenue. The Surrey Fire Department says at least five units are damaged, however, no one is hurt.

NEWS 1130‘s Darren Grieve flew over the flames in the NEWS 1130 Air Patrol and he describes the scene. “We have six large buildings in this facility and two smaller ones, it’s one of the larger buildings that is on fire. Crews are doing the best they can.”

Crews say the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“The U-Haul storage on King George is just black smoke billowing out everywhere. It looks like a quarter of the U-Haul is on fire right now,” says Lawrence, who called our newsroom as he witnessed the flames.

Other witnesses tell us they heard several explosions.
