Major conference on gender equality to be held in Vancouver in 2019

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver will be the site of a major conference in 2019 on gender equality.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Sophie Gregoire Trudeau were involved today in the announcement of the location for Women Deliver 2019.

“Like Canadians, Women Deliver believes that there is strength in our differences,” the Prime Minister said. “We believe that the diversity of opinions, of backgrounds, and of beliefs ultimately leads to better outcomes, and incomes too actually.”

The prime minister and his wife promoted the conference, with Trudeau saying everyone benefits from greater gender equality in all fields, from politics and industry to education and sports.

“While 2019 might seem far away, we can’t forget the important work that must be done every day to ensure women and girls are living the life they want for themselves,” he added.

Gregoire Trudeau says the world is missing out on the talent, skill and passion found in girls and women worldwide.

Women Deliver CEO Katja Iversen says Canada was chosen as the host country because of its track record of promoting gender equality.

About 6,000 attendees from more than 160 countries are expected to attend the conference over four days in the summer of 2019.
