Unsung Hero: Man works tirelessly as Scouts leader for three decades

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Congratulations to our Unsung Hero Shafik Panjwani. He was nominated for the award by Shams Bhagudi. Take a look at his story.

Shafik has been working with Scouts Canada with 27th Richmond Scouts Group for over 30 years. He has practically ran every single section of the group including Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures. He works tirelessly as a Scouts leader every Saturday running the Scouts program that focuses on outdoor and environmental activities, citizenship and community service, leadership and personal development including a variety of activities.

Every year he plans and executes at least two overnight camps for all scouts sections. The planning includes securing the camp ground, planning the activities, preparing the menu and getting other leaders and parents involved with providing a successful camping experience to all youth and young adults.

Shafik is a pillar in our community who works with our scouting group as a volunteer for so many years without any remuneration or recognition. He shows a practical picture of a selfless leader in his every day work with our scouting group.

Here is an excerpt from an email from a parent after her kids returned from July 1st camping in Summerland last year: “Thank you so much Shafik for such a wonderful camping; it was lovely to see kids being in leadership role. I have heard that “it takes a community to raise a kid”. Honestly, if our kids were not in scouts, I would have never understood, how community can help a kid to grow. But, from the bottom of our hearts, we as a parent really appreciate not just this camp, but every single moment of your life that you have been sacrificing to raise our kids. God bless you with unlimited blessings in your families and in your hearts.”

I am both humbled and proud to nominate Shafik Panjwani for the Unsung Hero choice for his tireless efforts, enthusiasm and commitment that he brings to our scouting group.

Alpine Credits is acknowledging Shafik with $500 to say thanks for stepping up and they’re also making a $1,000 donation to the Ronald McDonald House Children’s Charity.
