Boxing Day sales underway but Vancouver crowds a little underwhelming

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s Boxing Day and that means plenty of sales across Canada, but the crowd at at least one Vancouver retailer wasn’t exactly a scene out of Jingle All The Way.

There was a crowd out the front of Vancouver Best Buy this morning, which seemed a little underwhelming.

About 100 people waited until the doors parted, but many for only 30 minutes or so. There was no pushing, shoving or trampling, and the majority of shoppers spent less than an hour in line.

“It’s not like it used to be, like five or six years ago where… if you weren’t lined here by about four o’clock in the morning you were 200 or 300 people. This morning I just strolled in the door,” one shopper said.

Jay is a senior manager at this Best Buy.

“Yeah, it’s exactly what we were expecting. This is Boxing Day. Boxing Day everywhere is pretty hyped up. It’s exactly what we were looking for,” he said.

Many shoppers say Cyber Monday and Black Friday now take priority, especially because they come before Christmas.
