Abbotsford homicide victim identified

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A man with previous run-ins with police is the victim of the Lower Mainland’s most recent gun violence.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says 24-year-old Alexander Blanarou was shot and killed in Abbotsford on Thursday. The Abbotsford Police Department received a report of shots being fired at about 2:30 p.m. in the area of Bates and Harris Roads. When officers arrived they found a man with gunshot wounds. IHIT was called in soon after.
Blanarou was from Surrey.

“Mr. Blanarou was known to police and evidence to this point suggests this was a targeted homicide. There are many more investigative avenues that IHIT needs to concentrate on and we are looking to speak with any witnesses who may not have already come forward to police,” says Corporal Frank Jang.

In 2016, Blanarou was among five people arrested by Surrey RCMP after Mounties seized more than a dozen guns in connection to a string of more than 30 shootings at the time. Blanarou was charged with several offences.

Anyone with information about Blanarou’s killing is asked to call the IHIT tip line at 1.877.551.IHIT (4448) or you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
