Time to throw out the Christmas tree… but where?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The holidays are behind us, so what do you do with that Christmas tree? Metro Vancouver has some tips on how to toss that tannenbaum safely.

“You can either look for a chipping event, there are chipping events where charities do the chipping, you can find the locations for those on your municipality’s website, or, in some cases, the municipality may collect from your home,” explains Andrew Marr, Director of Solid Waste Planning for Metro Vancouver.

The City of Vancouver is collecting Christmas trees on the weekend of January 13th and 14th.

Another option is to simply drop it off yourself. The Metro Vancouver website has a list of approved locations. Be sure to remove all the decorations first.

But what if you have a fake tree?

“If it’s an artificial tree, obviously, we encourage people to re-use it, pack it away carefully. If it’s something they don’t want anymore, they should try and sell it or donate it first before they end up throwing it out,” Marr says.

Marr also recommends considering renting a potted tree next Christmas.
