Better Business Bureau releases top complaints, inquiries of 2017

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – From dating sites to moving companies, the Better Business Bureau received a lot of complaints — and inquiries — last year.
More than 1,000 complaints were made for a number of things, including more than 200 about dating services.
“Well sometimes there are some paid services for sites like Plenty of Fish or Match.com, or even OK Cupid so it’s going to stem around billing and service issues and that’s really the majority of the complaints,” says Evan Kelly with the BBB.
Complaints about parking facilities came in second, and Kelly says most of the issues people had involved payment.
“They’re certainly no stranger to complaints, and again that’s a lot of different companies here in town,” he explains. “And that comes to complaints in the form of people claiming they’ve paid and are still getting a ticket, or where they’ve just stopped for like five minutes and they still get a ticket, that kind of thing. I think for the most part a lot of these companies are still fairly responsive.”
According to the BBB, new car dealers, online retailers and phone companies round out the top five.
“One of the things we’re looking at right now is online shopping, and that’s where a lot of complaints, a lot of reports in our scam tracker are coming from is online purchases.”

As for top inquiries last year, Kelly says thousands of people used the BBB to help learn more about roofing contractors, moving companies and other home improvement services.
“When it comes to inquiries [people] could be looking, investigating a business before they hire, they could have noticed that someone got a lot of complaints on BBB or Yelp or something like that, so they go on to BBB to get more information on this company before they make a purchase decision.”
