Hockey Canada announces men’s Olympic roster

Former NHL winger Mason Raymond is among those highlighting Canada’s Olympic men’s hockey roster for the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang next month.

Announced at a press conference Thursday, other notable names heading to South Korea include Gilbert Brule and Maxim Lapierre.

Due to the NHL’s decision to pull out of the Olympic tournament, Canadian stars like Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews — who both helped Canada win gold in the past two Winter Games — will not be present. Instead, Hockey Canada was forced to look for talent outside the world’s top league meaning players like Raymond, who competes in Switzerland’s National League, were called upon to defend Canada’s Olympic crown.

Raymond was a member of Canada’s Spengler Cup winning team as well.
