Elderly man dies of injuries from December attack outside Vancouver Costco

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – An elderly man who was seriously hurt after an assault in Vancouver last month has died of his injuries.

It happened on December 20th just outside the Costco in Downtown Vancouver.

Police have said 86-year-old man was pushed to the ground during an altercation with a 57-year-old man. The senior hit his head and never recovered from his injuries.

The VPD has identified a suspect, but charges have not been laid. Police say they will submit a report to Crown Counsel once the investigation has been completed.

“Right now, it’s an investigation into a manslaughter charge,” says VPD Sergeant Jason Robillard.

“It would be up to Crown Counsel during their review if an offense happened… whether or not there was intent for that to happen — in simple terms.”

Investigators are still looking at video surveillance and speaking to witnesses.

“This is an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety,” adds Robillard.

Anyone with information about the attack who have not yet spoken to police are asked to give them a call at 604-717-2541.
