Former hostage Joshua Boyle to spend at least another week and a half in custody

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – Former hostage Joshua Boyle is going to spend at least another week and a half in custody, following another court appearance this morning in Ottawa.

Boyle is facing 15 charges including assault, sexual assault, and unlawful confinement.

Appearing via videolink from the detention centre, Joshua Boyle wore an orange correctional jumpsuit during this brief hearing. His lawyer and the Crown agreed to hold a meeting mid next week, with a pre-trial hearing being set for Friday, January 26.

At one point, the judge today asked Boyle if he understood what was going on.

He replied “I have no idea.”

It was explained to him and he just said “Okay.”

Boyle has yet to enter a plea to the charges and has yet to have a bail hearing.

Due to a publication ban, we are not allowed to identify the two victims in this case or report any details that could.

All of the alleged offences occurred after Boyle was rescued and returned to Canada along with his wife and three children. They had spent five years as hostages of a Taliban linked group in Afghanistan.
