Premier predicts public service growth will boost economy outside Metro Vancouver

PRINCE GEORGE (NEWS1130) – Premier John Horgan says the creation of more jobs in health care, education and other public services will boost economic growth outside the Lower Mainland.
While speaking in Prince George, Horgan talked about what’s being done to boost the populations of communities traditionally dependent on natural resources.
“Well, I believe we’ve turned a corner and I believe that if we continue as a government to invest in public services, health care, new schools, investments in UNBC and CNC here in Prince George, for example, keeps young people in communities that — if they’re educated in communities, they’re likely to stay in those communities.”
Horgan adds he also spent some time talking to a couple of college students who have no desire to leave.
“Both born and raised in Prince George, getting their technological certifications from CNC and then going on to UNBC and so, the infrastructure to keep young people in communities is there, but we have to attract healthcare professionals, we have to attract other professionals to continue to grow the economy in rural BC.”
He adds communities traditionally dependent on natural resources — like Prince George — now have thriving educational facilities like the University of Northern BC and College of New Caledonia.
