Suspect sought after sexual assault in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Mounties south of the Fraser River are asking for your help to find a suspect following a reported sex assault in South Surrey.

RCMP say it happened at about 10:20 p.m. on Jan. 12th around 21st Avenue and 153rd Street. They say a woman told them she had been attacked by a man who also groped her. Investigators says she screamed and pushed the attacker away and he took off. Officers did find a man nearby who matched the suspect’s description but he was released and not charged.

The suspect was described by the victim as 5’7″ to 5’8″ tall, wearing a grey hoodie and a grey looking backpack.

The RCMP’s Special Victims Unit is leading this investigation. “Thankfully the victim was not physically harmed,” says Corporal Scotty Schumann. “Investigators are hoping someone may have spotted a similar looking person in this area and come forward with that information. Any detail, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, could be what solves a crime.”

Anyone with more information about this case is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604.599.0502 and quote file #2018-5683 or call CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222TIPS.
