Vancouver Police issue warning about random, unprovoked assaults

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The VPD is issuing a warning to anyone who spends time in the Kitsilano or Fairview areas of Vancouver, after several random assaults last month.

The first two incidents happened on February 5th at West 2nd Avenue at Burrard Street and at West Broadway and Alma Street. The next was on February 22nd at Granville Street and West Broadway. The last one took place on February 24th at West Broadway and Laurel Street.

In each case, police say the suspect approached a victim in a public area like on a sidewalk or at a convenience store, and then either punched, elbowed or pushed the person without any provocation. He then simply walked away.

In all four incidents, the victim did not know the suspect and police don’t have any motive for the attacks.

The victims, all of whom were in their 20s, had minor injuries.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s who is 5’9″ tall and has a medium build. He was clean-shaven with short black hair.

In the first two cases, the suspect was wearing a white t-shirt with an upside-down “A” symbol on it, a blue jacket, blue jeans, and black runners.

If you have any information that could help police, you’re asked to call the VPD’s Major Crimes Section at 604-717-2541, or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.
